Acciones que están sucediendo ahora mismo: The BMX rider is jumping. (El ciclista de BMX está saltando).

Acciones que están sucediendo durante el presente bloque de tiempo o recientemente: I am going to the gym quite often (recently). (Ultimamente voy al gimnasio bastante a menudo). | She is studying really hard for her exam this month. (Está estudiando mucho para su examen este mes).

Acciones que están en curso o incompletas: I am learning Portuguese. (Estoy aprendiendo portugués.) |“Hey, John! I’m reading your book… I haven’t finished yet though” (“¡Hola, John! Estoy leyendo tu libro… Aunque todavía no lo he terminado”)
Estructura Afirmativa
La estructura general es: SUJETO + VERBO TO BE + VERBO(ING) + OBJETO
El verbo “to be” se conjuga como de costumbre y puede, o no, ser contraído.
Añadimos ING al final del verbo principal.
Por ejemplo: The whale plays > The whale is playing. (La ballena juega > La ballena está jugando)
La estructura del presente continuo es la misma para todas las personas (excepto la conjugación del verbo “to be”).
IMPORTANTE: Recuerde que ING al final de un verbo no siempre indica una forma continua. la “forma ING” también puede ser usada para adjetivos y la forma de gerundio (sustantivo) de los verbos.
Por ejemplo: This is exciting / I like reading. (Esto es emocionante / Me gusta leer)
Estructura Negativa
Para negar el presente continuo, negamos el verbo “to be”.
Por ejemplo: I am eating / I’m eating > I am not eating / I’m not eating (Estoy comiendo > No estoy comiendo)| They are sailing / They’re sailing > They are not sailing / They’re not sailing / They aren’t sailing (Están navegando > No están navegando)
Estructura Interrogativa
Para hacer preguntas en presente continuo, invertimos el sujeto y el verbo auxiliar (to be).
Por ejemplo: You are sleeping > Are you sleeping? (Estás durmiendo > ¿Estás durmiendo?) | She is singing > Is she singing? (Está cantando > ¿Está cantando?)
